Braylon Edwards recently spoke out on Twitter about Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, and the effect is has on NFL players. He also noted that the NFL has not given the disease the attention it deserves, counting the fact that it affects the leagues' main source of income, which are the players.
ALS is a disease of
the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that
control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also
known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Braylon tweeted:
"People often get mad at football players for askin
for more money or try to take shots at us for being quote un quote
ungrateful primadonnas.
I saw a special that was talking about the rapid
break down of cells and nerves in the human body called ALS or bka Lou Gerigh's disease.
It is amazing to know that continuous head trauma
& spinal unequaling can lead to paralysis. It is happening to more
& more former football players every year and the NFL is not helping
these players at all. It is a fatal disease that we are learning more
about but the NFL is still doing little to nothing to help with.
All the money the game makes a year especially
during Superbowl it would seem fair to take care of former players.
So next time you go running your mouth about what this player or that
player doesn't deserve ask yourself could you develop ALS on your job
(if you have one) & parish. "
