For the first time in 12 years, the Detroit Lions have a reason to celebrate. The former NFC North laughingstocks have managed to clinch the ever elusive playoff spot to end what has been a rocky road season of many highs and lows. The announcement came after the Lions sent the San Diego Chargers home packing, sealing their fate with a 38-10 win.
"You could just get a sense of how much it meant to them," Stafford  told to the Associated Press. "It was fun to give them that kind of joy."

With one game left to play vs. NFC North arch enemy Green Bay, the playoff picture is still missing a crucial piece to the puzzle, potentially pitting the Lions against a myriad of teams from Packers, San Francisco 49ersNew Orleans SaintsAtlanta Falcons and either the Dallas Cowboys or New York Giants.  Although Detroit has faced all these teams except the Giants, they have only managed to defeat the Dallas Cowboys in a comeback victory that neither Lions or Cowboy fans won't soon forget.
Regardless of who Detroit plays entering the playoffs, the feat of shattering a curse that has riddled the franchise for over a decade has renewed a sense of accomplishment and hope in a team that has disappointed its fans time and time again.  Despite being riddled with disciplinary problems from key players such as Ndamukong Suh throughout the season, the former 0-16 have accomplished what they set out to do --- finish the season with atleast 10 wins and thanks to 3 touchdown passes from Matthew Stafford  end a 11 season drought shutting them out of the postseason.
"This is an accomplishment," Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said. "It's a big step for our team and our organization."
