*Can you tell us a little bit about your company? When was it started?
The name of the company is RINACOSTYLES and we specialize
in one of a kind crocheted fashions. We started the crochet line about
7 years ago.
*What were the influences early on that made you get into fashion?
I've always liked fashion but not shopping. Mainly because
when I went shopping there were so many items of clothing that all
looked alike and didn't really catch my attention. I altered almost
everything I bought. My biggest influence in the crochet venture though
had to be Gigi Hunter!
*If you could design a dress for any celebrity, who would it be?
So hard to choose just one...hmmm,...Jennifer Hudson, Solange,Kim Kardashian, Oprah!!!
*What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion to me means standing out and feeling as good as
you look. It's kind of self defining~finding ones style and working it
to the fullest!!! Just being comfortable.
*How would you define your city's fashion?
Detroit's fashion is so fly to me. I think we set a point for a lot of styles while keeping out style our own!
*When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
Quite honestly, it just happened. Started out as a hobby and turned into an obsession!!
*What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
The first I ever designed as far as wearable clothing was a
hat! Then I did scarfs that graduated into ponchos. My first ever
dress was a poncho that was developing too narrow to be a poncho- so I
added some straps for armholes and realized I'd actually made a dress!!!
*How long does it usually take you to construct a piece?
It could take anywhere from 25 to 300 hours. I've made
tops or halters in less time but a dress for everyday is 25 to40 hours
depending on the length mostly. I have a wedding gown that took just
over 300 hundred hours to complete.
*Who is one of your favorite local models to work with?
I don't have a favorite. I've worked with several who have represented RINACOSTYLES very well!!
*Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing.
The biggest process is in selecting yarns, colors, and
textures. There's no general process tho, cause when I start I really
don't know what it's gonna turn into. Unless it's a special order, I
just let it flow and see what comes up next!!!
*What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?
My biggest accomplishment is satisfied clients!! My
clients are guaranteed not to see their outfit ever!! I've had
opportunities to meet many other designers, models, and fashionable
people who I'm glad to know now.
*Who are some of your favorite designers?
No favorites. I like clothes that make a statement and stand out. So whoever does it like that is among my faves!!!
*Where can readers buy your clothes?
RINACOSTYLES is available now to purchase or order at
TEASERS BOUTIQUE IN DETROIT~3133413131 and at RACHEL'S PLACE
VINTAGE~3139649008.
*How do you select your models?
Depends on the reason. Some are from a
photography/fashion project that I have been involved in for the past
few years. Other's are from models calls for specific shows, where
basically I supply the clothes. I generally don't have to worry about
fittings and such because of the nature of the fabric. RINACOSTYLES
adjust well to different body shape and sizes!!
*What are some of your favorite clothing stores/catalogs/websites?
Guess
I don't have favorite anythings! I like a lot of stuff and I'm not
into the favorites. I love differences in all aspects!
*What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing?
Selection of materials and fit is the most important. Attention to the smallest details and proper construction...priceless!!
*What matters to you most as a fashion designer?
That my clients are satisfied with their first purchase and on their next one too!
*What advice do you have for someone who wants to be a designer?
My advice? Do what YOU feel is fashionable. Have an open mind and don't be swayed by trends.
*What should everyone expect in the latter part of the year from your company?
Who knows?? The unexpected!!!!
